Summer 2011 news
The original prospect of running Nightmare Park on the home farmland cannot work in the present format. When it came time to apply for permits, it was discovered that there was not enough parking available for the scope of the entire event. All is not lost as there are some possible avenues being explored:
a. running the Nightmare Park event at Coffin Creek in the Haunted Village. This is a large event located in Corona, California on a land of over 180 acres. (the original multiple maze assets of Nightmare Park were moved here to help add to the assets of this great event). In 2010, we ran a vampire show there and 2011 will oversee the operation of a new kind of high tech haunted house concept. Details of this groundbreaking attraction will be divulged after the culmination of the 2011 event.
Coffin Creekb. Running Nightmare Park as a drastically reduced event on the home farmland. The original scope involved 4 mazes, a storytelling circle, hayride and midway operation. The event would scale back to a single maze.
c. Nightmare Park would run as an appointment only haunted house. Prospective customers would come to this website to be assigned an appointment time. for that event, the staff would give an hour long event including haunted maze, stage show and walking trail or hayride as well as a storytelling circle. This would have the advantage and innovative feel of a VIP haunt event. Instead of waiting in a large crowd, the small customer group would have a tour of the various attractions operated for their own pleasure.
Please note that the latter 2 options will depend on the cooperation of the County in terms of setting occupancy and parking limits to make either option work. If the third option of the guided tour is feasible, this may become a year round event rather than simply during the month of October.
In other news, we are pleased that Dark Matter was chosen as the movie trailer soundtrack for Lee Vervoort's excellent horror movie Gun Town. Gun Town is an independant horror movie by the movie stuntman Lee Vervoort. the storyline is classic but it is a fun ride with the story taking place in the Copper Canyon tourist attraction in Kentucky.
Gun Town, the movieNightmare Park is also pleased to be involved with the upgrading of the American Air Lights airplane light control system. American Air Lights is an innovative form of advertising utilizing a light grid in the night sky. Based in Fullerton Airport, American Air Lights can advertise over a wide range of venues.
American Air LightsThe Pinball Mind project is still going strong. This is a pinball MPU upgrade for the home pinball Brain board. At present time, it is impossible to repair these boards due to the unavailability of the chips involved. The Pinball mind is a stabndard format MPU as a piggyback board. It utilizes far greater memory capabilities than the original pinball and takes advantage by utilizing a far more sophisticated operating system and multiple selectable games to play. A programming SDK (Software Development Kit) will also be available for those wishing to create and sell their own programs for this platform.
Older news as of 1/1/09
The new year is upon us. It is a rough time for everyone. Yet it is also a time of opportunity for those who
can make their place in life.
Nightmare Park has been steadily progressing. For 2008, Nightmare Park has acquired the physical maze of the Haunted Cellar in Orange County. The original concept would be a 3rd or 4th year alien themed maze called Gyrotron. The CHAOS certification has also been achieved. For those of you not familiar with it, the state of Pennsylvania requires a seminar series and written test to be passed concerning fire and general haunt safety before a haunt is even allowed to open. California does not require this certification but may do so eventually. To this end, IAHA has put forth the CHAOS series, an intense safety seminar series.
The basic design of Nightmare Park was already well versed in safety, based on the writings of JBCorn. The changes made from the education of the seminar series are slight and mainly concern traffic flow in an emergency. So that is already a comforting thought that the basic designs and concepts will work for safety purposes.
We also now have an event organizer who can help wrangle the various logistics involving the charities working together for this. This helps solve a most important piece of the puzzle, a charity to adopt Nightmare Park as their Halloween fundraising activity.
And this is where you can come in, gentle reader. Are you in a theatre group or organized church or school group and interested in becoming a part of Nightmare Park with your friends? Please feel free to contact me at tony@nightmarepark.com for us to meet and talk.
